Gender equality, sustainable employment in Labor Code reform
(VOVworld) – The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs hosted a workshop on gender equality and sustainable employment in the Labor Code’s reforms. The workshop is part of a project funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development. Participants shared experiences from ASEAN countries and discussed job opportunities for women, protection of pregnant women, social insurance, occupational health, eradication of child labor and employment for young people.
Doan Mau Diep, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, said the workshop is significant for Vietnam because its revised Labor Code will take effect in May 2013. “The workshop provides an opportunity for domestic and foreign delegates to share experiences in models and programs to promote gender equality and sustainable employment in ASEAN and member states. It also reviews Vietnam’s gender equality and studies the amended Labor Code”, said Diep.
Vietnam’s Labor Code has been revised to better protect the legitimate rights of employees and employers in the interests of national development.
