At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hanoi on Thursday, spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said Mr. Lam's participation in the United Nations Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79)  marks his first multilateral diplomatic activity in his new role.

This visit comes at a time when Vietnam’s relationship with the United Nations is growing stronger, nearly 50 years after its establishment. During his time in New York, General Secretary and President To Lam is expected to deliver a key speech at the United Nations Summit of the Future and engage in bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
The visit to the US also coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US, and it sets the stage for the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
Regarding Vietnam's long-standing solidarity and friendship with Cuba, Pham Thu Hang highlighted that this is Mr. Lam's first visit to Cuba as the head of the Party and State of Vietnam. During his stay, he will hold talks with Cuban First Secretary and President Miguel Díaz-Canel, meet with National Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernández, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and greet General Raul Castro Ruz, among other important diplomatic activities.
