(VOVworld)- At the National Assembly’s meeting on Saturday, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang was elected as Vietnamese President with 91.5% of votes. In the following swearing in, President Tran Dai Quang said:“I sincerely thank the National Assembly for electing me as the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. In front of the national flag, the National Assembly, the people, and voters nationwide, I, Tran Dai Quang, vow my resolute loyalty to the nation, the people, and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. I promise to exert efforts to well fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State, and people”.

President Tran Dai Quang expressed his gratitude to former President Truong Tan Sang and other predecessor Presidents for their great contribution to national construction and defense. President Quang said: “With honor and responsibility of the Head of the State, the Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, and the leader of the Armed Forces, I promise to do my best to serve the nation, the people, continue the national building and safeguarding tradition, promote experience of predecessor Presidents, strengthen the national unity bloc, resolutely defend national independence, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and national interests. I will do my best to strengthen the renewal process and the international integration, raise Vietnam’s prestige and position in the international arena, and contribute to peace, national independence, democracy and social progresses in the world”.
National Assembly deputies said they believed that President Tran Dai Quang will successfully fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, National Assembly, and the people. Tran Ngoc Vinh is a deputy for Hai Phong city: “We believe in the new President because he has experienced many challenges, especially when he worked in the public security sector. The Ministry of Public Security and Minister Tran Dai Quang managed to maintain law and order. With his experience, I believe he will fulfill his tasks”.
Born on October 12, 1956, Mr. Tran Dai Quang holds a Doctorate in Law. He has held different positions at local and central level including Deputy Minister of Public Security, and Minister of Public Security. He was elected to the 10th, 11th and 12th Party Central Committee. He is a Politburo member of the 11th and 12th Party Central Committee.
