German FDP calls on Greens to compromise on immigration

In an interview with the Rheinische Post newspaper on Tuesday, Mr. Lindner stressed the big differences between the two parties in immigration policy. He said the Greens do not represent the majority of Germans on the issue of family reunification, allowing foreigners to join their relatives granted asylum in Germany, adding that this is one of the most contentious issues in the coalition talks.

All parties are eager to show the public they are taking measures to prevent a repeat of 2015, when German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s decision to welcome refugees led to the largest ever influx of asylum seekers to Germany.
