Germany calls for resumption of transatlantic trade deal talks
(VOVWORLD) - Christian Lindner, Germany's finance minister, has called for fresh talks on a free trade agreement between the European Union and the United States, the media reported Sunday, aiming to revive discussions halted by former US President Donald Trump.

Lindner said negotiations should resume as the Ukraine crisis has made clear the importance of free trade with partners who share the same values.
A transatlantic free trade agreement was first proposed in the 1990s.
Between 2013 and 2017, the US and the EU discussed an agreement called the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) but President Trump called off TTIP negotiations when he took office, sparking a series of trade disputes with the EU.
