The weekly Der Spiegel cited a draft from the federal finance ministry for negotiations with the country's 16 states that the money will go to housing support, language lessons for asylum-seekers, and efforts to find the reasons why people flee their home countries and seek refuge in Germany.
The finance ministry document predicts that 600,000 refugees will come to Germany this year, 400,000 in 2017 and 300,000 in the following years. It assumes that 55% of those who are officially recognized as refugees will find work within five years.
The money required to address the crisis will rise gradually until 2020. The federal and local governments have stuck on migrant money policy given the states’ limited budget.
