German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said the two leaders in a phone call called North Korea’s hydrogen bomb test an unacceptable escalation. Merkel and Trump called on the international community to continue to exert pressure on North Korea and the UN Security Council to quickly adopt stricter sanctions.
Merkel said Berlin will push sanctions through the European Union to punish Pyongyang’s violation of international law and promote a peaceful resolution to the North Korea nuclear issue.
