Germany's Social Democrats agree to open talks with Merkel
(VOVWORLD) - The leadership of Germany's Social Democrats (SPD) on Friday accepted the recommendation of party leader Martin Schulz to begin exploratory talks on forming a government with Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives.

Any final decision on supporting a coalition government with Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) must be ratified by party members at a special congress.
A Forsa poll for broadcaster ZDF showed that 70% of Germans expect a grand coalition.
