Greece’s Ministry of the Interior and Administrative Reconstruction said that 62.5% of eligible Greek voters participated in the referendum. With 100% of the votes counted, only 38.69 % of voters said “Yes” to the austerity measures demanded by international creditors including the International Monetary Fund, the European Council, and the European Central Bank. Thousands of people gathered in central Syntagma Square in Athens to celebrate the result, despite warnings that failure to reach a deal with the creditors could trigger a Greek exit from the eurozone.
