Conde’s main rival, opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo came second in the election with 31 percent of the vote. He has refused to recognize the outcome of what he labeled an “illegal” vote tainted by mismanagement and fraud. He was not however among those who appealed to the court to overturn the result. A senior official of the opposition Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea Party said that it did not complained because, it added, the court will not accept any evidence. The poll was held on October 11th amid clashes between supporters of new President Conde and supports of Diallo, causing a number of casualties. The election was only the second democratic presidential poll in a half century.
