(VOVworld) – The masked gunman who shot and killed a soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa on Wednesday was shot dead by the police while he entered the parliament building.

Canadian forces used armoured vehicles to blockade the area and other key areas in the capital city, including the US Embassy. Witnesses said there might have been more than one shooters while the police continued their search and declined to say whether they believe the gunman acted alone.

Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Steven Blaney, said the incident showed signs of a terrorist attack.
