The Wan Hai 805, with a capacity of more than 130,000 tons, providing direct services between northern Vietnam and the west coast of the US, became the largest ship ever to anchor at the port. Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Cong said the event shows the port’s capacity and marks a milestone in the port’s direct overseas logistics service, boosting foreign direct investment to Hai Phong and northern Vietnam. He said: "Receiving such big ships will boost the economic development of Hai Phong city, the Hai Phong-Quang Ninh Key Economic Zone, and Vietnam’s northern region. We hope Vietnam will soon receive even bigger ships, as big as 160,000 tons with 14,000 TEUs."
The Hai Phong International Container Terminal receives an average of 6 vessels per day including 2 trans-Pacific ships.
