The report was confirmed by senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk and Fatah’s top negotiator Azzam al-Ahmad. Palestinian talks took place following an Israel-Palestine agreement to hold talks on a long-term cease-fire in Gaza in October. The two Palestinian factions formed a national unity government in June, but Hamas was rebuked by President Mahmoud Abbas for not ceding the new government full authority in the Gaza strip.
