The Sada el-Balad television reported that negotiators in Cairo have made progress on the technical aspects of a potential deal. But according to some sources participating in the negotiations, the parties still need time to agree on specific details before reaching a final ceasefire deal.
Another high-ranking source confirmed to Egypt's Al-Qahera News TV channel that the Egyptian security delegation participated in the talks to help Hamas and Israel reach "consensus" on various points of disagreement.
Mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and the US listened to Hamas's response to a proposal of a 40-day pause in fighting and an agreement to exchange hostages for Palestinian prisoners.
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly refused to send a negotiation delegation to Cairo at the request of the US and international mediators.
During internal consultations in Israel on Saturday, Prime Minister Netanyahu said that sending Israeli representatives to Cairo will only take place until Hamas officially responds to the latest proposal for a ceasefire and hostage exchange proposal.
According to the Aljazeera, Israel’s artillery shelling and the presence of drones across Rafah City continue on Saturday, killing three people.
