(VOVWORLD) - Hanoi has remained at the top of global travellers’ wish lists even though COVID-19 travel restrictions severely curtailed tourism last year.

In 2021, Vietnam’s capital city was second on TripAdvisor’s top 25 list of popular destinations in Asia and sixth on the world list.
Hanoi also ranked first on the list of the world’s 10 cheapest cities to live in, selected by World Packers, who described it as a multicultural and historical city known for “architecture, street food, nightlife, and vast history.
Together with Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc Island, Hanoi was listed among the world’s 100 greatest places to explore on earth in 2021 by Time magazine. The city was also on the list of the “Best Cities for a Workation” released by UK travel website Holidu, and was named among the 50 cities that have responded the best to the COVID-19 pandemic by the UK’s Deep Knowledge Analytics.
A number of hotels in Hanoi also topped global rankings last year. For the 2nd year in a row, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was awarded a Five Star rating, the top level of recognition, by Forbes Travel Guide in its assessment of luxury hotels, restaurants and spas in 2021. Hanoi’s La Siesta Diamond Hotel took first place on the list of the world’s top 25 rooftop hotels voted by Trip Advisor users.
