Ta Minh Tuan, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, said, “looking back at the historical development of the relationship, it can be seen that the ties between the two countries have constantly grew”.

In 2019, Vietnam and Australia established a comprehensive partnership and only nine years later, the relationship was upgraded to strategic partnership, Tuan said.

Since then, Vietnam has held an increasingly important role and position in regional and international cooperation architectures. The two countries have recognized their mutual importance in each other's security, economic and foreign policy, he added.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Andrew Goledzinowski, emphasized the growing strength of Australia-Vietnam relations, rooted in their common commitment to fostering a stable, peaceful, resilient, and prosperous world. This shared dedication, particularly in Southeast Asia, stands as a top priority for the Australian Government, he said.

The Ambassador said Australia and Vietnam can do a lot to help shape the region and shape their future.

“The fundamental reason why we are engaging with Vietnam as we are today is because we desperately need a region which is peaceful, prosperous, independent and sovereign,” Mr. Andrew said.

He added that Vietnam's success is essential to the success of the region.

Participants discussed the lessons acquired from a half century of relations between Vietnam and Australia, their plans for future cooperation, as well as the foreign policies of both countries in the ever‑evolving Indo‑Pacific geopolitical landscape.
