Since July 2021, the city has established 16 field hospitals with many of them converted from resettlement areas. Their main task was to receive and treat asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic infection cases.
With the prolonged coronavirus outbreak being gradually brought under control, the municipal Department of Health will return these hospitals to the local administration to meet residents and students’ accommodation demand when the city moves into the post-pandemic period.
The Health Department said field hospitals will gradually close later this month until the end of the year. The Field Hospital No.3, 6 and 8 will be the last to close in late December.
The model of 3-level field hospital will be applied at the Field Hospital No.13, 14 and 16. The Health Department will rotate doctors and medical staff from general and specialized hospitals to work at Field Hospitals.
Ho Chi Minh City also plans to take over intensive care unit (ICU) centres developed and managed by centrally-run hospitals over the past months.
The hospital of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy is scheduled to take over the Resuscitation Center of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital on October 15. Gia Dinh People’s Hospital is scheduled to take over the Resuscitation Center of Bach Mai Hospital on October 20. Hue’s Hosital of Tropical Diseases will continue to operate a Resuscitation Center at Field Hospital 14 until the end of this year, then hand over it to the People’s Hospital 115.
