Hurricane delays American Independence Day celebration
(VOVworld) – Celebrations for American Independence Day, July 4th have been postponed due to hurricane Arthur, which has hit so far Northeastern states.
This is the first hurricane of the Atlantic season this year. According to the US National Hurricane center, hurricane Arthur crossed the coast near Cape Lookout at the southern end of North Carolina's Outer Banks at 03:15 GMT on Thursday, with maximum sustained winds of 160 km/h. This earned it a Category 2 status on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale of hurricane intensity. The storm disrupted Independence Day festivities and fireworks.
