At least 20 Indian soldiers and 43 Chinese troops were casualties of many hours of fight with sticks and stones on Monday night in the Galwan Valley.
According to Indian news agency ANI, the violence in Galwan Valley was the result of a Chinese attempt to change the status quo in Eastern Ladakh. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava said Tuesday that China had broken a prior agreement to respect the Line of Actual Control in the Galwan Valley.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui on Tuesday claimed that the violence occurred when Indian personnel crossed the border for “illegal activities and provoked and attacked Chinese personnel”.
China has not confirmed the number of casualties.
