Indonesia attaches importance to developing ties with Vietnam
(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Friday. Mr. Dung said Vietnam and Indonesia are two neighboring countries and ASEAN members.
He hoped that Indonesia will have humanitarian treatment to Vietnamese fishermen and boats violating Indonesia’s territorial waters. Minister Retno Marsudi said Indonesian President Joko Widodo has always attached importance to developing ties with Vietnam as Vietnam is the only ASEAN country that has established strategic partnership with Indonesia.
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh talked with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi about ways to foster cooperative ties in the future. The two sides committed to working closely on activities to mark the 60th anniversary of bilateral ties and agreed on measures to effectively cooperate in economics, science and technology. Vietnam and Indonesia are determined to raise two-way trade turnover to 10 billion USD in 2018 as agreed by the leaders of the two countries.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the diplomats affirmed the importance of assuring peace, security, navigation and aviation freedom in the East Sea and resolving disputes based on international laws, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. They also called on all conflict parties to fully respect the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, practise restraint, avoid actions that worsen the situation and soon establish a Code of Conduct for Parties in the East Sea.
