(VOVworld) – Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said Wednesday that the Indonesian government could not provide shelters for more Rohingya asylum seekers from Myanmar. She said that providing accommodations, medical and food assistance for Rohingya asylum seekers is part of Indonesia’s humanitarian policy but it doesn’t mean that Indonesia welcomes or draws more asylum seekers.
Retno Marsudi said that shelters for Rohingya migrants have to be under good management with combined security efforts based on humanitarian values.
In a meeting between Foreign Ministers from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand on migrant issue last month, all parties have agreed on a joint statement to providing accommodations for migrants on condition that they will return to their homeland or re-settle within a year. Minister Retno stressed that the Indonesian government has cooperated with the Myanmar government to resolutely resolve this problem.
