(VOVworld) – Indonesia held a major military parade on Tuesday to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the Indonesian Army (October 5, 1945 – October 5, 1945) in Surabaya military port, eastern Java.

The parade comprised some 19,000 soldiers displaying Indonesia’s most modern weaponry. Addressing the event, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said he would modernise the army and improve its strength and professionalism, pledging that he would double or even triple the defence budget in the next 5 years and improve the lives of soldiers and their families with an annual economic growth of 7 per cent.
