(VOVworld) – US President Barack Obama has conveyed his congratulations to Indonesian President-elect Joko Widodo, hoping to strengthen ties with the new Indonesian government.

Obama told Widodo on a Thursday telephone call that the US supports the July 9 election result, which recognized Widodo’s victory with 6 per cent of the votes ahead his runner-up. Obama praised Indonesia’s role in the region and affirmed the US rebalance in Asia-Pacific. He also spoke highly of the US-Indonesian comprehensive partnership and hoped for a prompt meeting with Widodo on improving the bilateral ties and fulfilling common targets.
