Ho Tan Cuong, Deputy Director of Quang Nam Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said over the next 3 days, 19 art troupes from other provinces will perform for the festival: “Through this activity, we want to promote local art forms to foreign friends. Vietnam is compiling documents to be submitted to UNESCO for recognition of the central coastal region’s bai choi (singing while playing cards) as intangible cultural heritage of humanity.”

69 year-old Nguyen Ngoc Vinh, a spectator, said: “I feel happy and proud of the festival, the largest ever festival in Tam Thanh to showcase the beauty of Tam Ky beach and people. Quang Nam’s bai choi folk singing is very interesting, depicting farmers’ activities in the rice field and at sea.”
