International workshop honors Oc Eo culture in the context of Asian Culture
(VOVWORLD) - An international workshop entitled “Oc Eo Culture in the context of Asian Culture” was held in An Giang on Friday.
This is the first international workshop on Oc Eo Culture ever held in Vietnam. High on the agenda was a review of a project on the research of the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological relic site in Thoai Son district, An Giang province and Nen Chua, Kien Giang Province.

Dr. Phan Chi Hieu, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, said: “This workshop aims to review and evaluate the scientific achievements of the project. It also provides more comprehensive understanding and scientific data on Oc Eo culture in the context of Asian culture, clarifies the outstanding values of the Oc Eo-Ba The archaeological site, and provides a scientific foundation for the conservation and promotion of Oc Eo culture. The outcomes of the workshop will also serve the preparation of a dossier for UNESCO’s recognition of the Oc Eo-Ba The relic site as a World Cultural Heritage.”
Oc Eo culture was formed and developed between the first and the seventh century. This is a great culture in Vietnamese history, associated with the land and people in the lower Mekong Delta and closely related to ancient Southeast Asian history.
