Iran not to close nuclear facilities

(VOVworld) – Ali-Akbar Velayati, a Senior Advisor to Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Tuesday Iran would continue to develop its nuclear program despite other countries’ objections. He said Iran would not reduce the number of its centrifuges or close the Fordo nuclear plant or Arak heavy-water reactor as part of any comprehensive nuclear deal with the P5+1.

At a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday in Jerusalem, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would not accept Iran’s possession of any nuclear weapons and warned that Tehran may still be continuing to develop nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles that could reach Europe and the US. He said any long-term nuclear agreement needed to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear capability. The Prime Minister also opposed a plan proposed by the US mission allowing for Iran to develop Uranium enrichment program at low level for non-military purposes.
