Khamenei and other senior Iranian officials have ramped up their criticism of the United States in recent weeks after US President Donald Trump’s official visit last month to Saudi Arabia. During that visit, Trump singled out Iran as a key source of funding and support for terrorist groups. He also criticized the nuclear deal between Iran and six major Western powers, including the US, that involved lifting most of the sanctions on Iran in return for curbs on Iran’s nuclear program. Trump said the US will review the deal.
