(VOVworld) – Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has conferred the Friendship Medal on John S. Gunning, an Irish energy expert, for his great contribution to Vietnam’s energy sector.

Mr. Gunning had expertly advised on Vietnam’s energy policies in early 1980s to 1990 when Vietnam was facing numerous difficulties in economic reform. The Deputy Prime Minister said Gunning’s contribution, including assistance to improve the operation of old power plants as well as build new ones, helped foster relations between Vietnam and Ireland.
