At least 10 people were killed in the attack on Monday, which took place a day after a wave of bombings on three churches killed at least 13 people. ISIS, via its Amaq website, claimed responsibility for the spate of attacks over the past 24 hours. Indonesia’s police said the suicide attack outside Surabaya's police headquarters in the city centre was carried out by a family of five, including an eight-year-old girl who survived the attack. The attack killed the four perpetrators and wounded four officers and six civilians.

The UN Security Council on Monday condemned "in the strongest terms" the terrorist attacks in Indonesia. Council members underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice. They urged all states to cooperate actively with the Indonesian government and all other relevant authorities in this regard.
