Israel, Palestine resume talks to end Gaza violence
(VOVworld) - Israeli and Palestinian negotiators resumed talks in Cairo on Monday to seek a long-term ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The Egypt-brokered indirect negotiation came a day after Israel and Hamas agreed to another 72-hour truce which took effect at midnight on Monday.

Hamas militants who control the Gaza Strip halted their firing of rockets and mortar shells into Israeli territory as promised. But they warned they will resume firing if the talks fail.
Israel strongly opposes the building of a seaport or airport in Gaza, one of Hamas conditions, but Israel will agree to the reopening of the Rafah border gate to the Sinai peninsula, which Palestine must discuss with Egypt. Israel has agreed to expand the fishing grounds for Gaza citizens but wants guarantees that Hamas fighters will not use any international aid for reconstruction of the region.
