The Israeli army on Thursday said it is planning a security wall on the Red Sea, separating the 2 cities of Eilat, Israel, and Taba, Egypt, amidst the unrest in Egypt and the Sinai peninsula. This will be the last phase of a project to tighten border security. Israel is now building a fence along its border with Egypt, set to be completed early next year.

The border has often been infiltrated by armed militants. Last week, Egyptian Islamists fired a Grad rocket from the Sinai peninsula into the northern part of Eilat city but no casualties were reported.
