A statement by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said military operations could be resumed by September 1 and that Tel Aviv will compensate Israeli citizens in the south who are hurt economically because of the offensive. The statement was released as the international community tries to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Gaza which has killed 2,000 Palestinians and injured 10,500, while killing 64 Israeli soldiers and 5 Israeli civilians. The UN said 70 percent of the Palestinian victims were civilians, including 478 children. Some 460,000 people, one-fourth of Gaza’s residents, have fled their homes in Gaza because of the conflict.
