The verdict came after judge Azmi Ariffin at the Shah Alam High Court in Selangor state announced that he was reducing the charge of murder to intentionally inflicting injury using dangerous means. The trial was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Le Quy Quynh. Huong and an Indonesian woman named Siti Aisyah were accused of poisoning the DPRK citizen travelling under the name of Kim Chol with liquid VX, a banned chemical weapon, at Kuala Lumpur airport in February 2017. Huong’s legal team has said that with usual sentence reductions, she would be released next month.
