The plan is part of Japan’s effort to forge stronger ties with countries in South and Southeast Asia.

Kishida said FOIP is a long-term vision that aims to protect the law and freedom, noting that India plays an important role in maintaining regional peace and stability.

During his talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday in New Delhi, Kishida invited the leaders of South Korea, Brazil, India, Vietnam and four other countries to attend the G7 summit, which will be held in Hiroshima, in May.
