(VOVWORLD) - A powerful earthquake struck off Japan’s east coastal province of Fukushima on Saturday, causing buildings to shake violently in Tokyo and causing widespread power outages.
More than 100 people suffered injuries, the Kyodo news agency reported.
Japan's meteorological agency said the 7.3 magnitude quake hit at 11H08 PM local time at a depth of 60 kilometres in the Pacific, off Fukushima —near the epicentre of a 2011 killer quake which triggered a towering tsunami and killed more than 18,000.
Ms. Lam Thi Thanh Phuong, an envoy at the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, said that the embassy has contacted Vietnamese associations and groups in the affected area to update their situation, and that no Vietnamese casualties have been reported. The embassy will continue to keep updated about the Vietnamese people in the affected area and promptly support those in need.
