Japan enacts controversial law to accept foreign workers
(VOVWORLD) - Japanese lawmakers have passed a legislation expanding the number of semi-skilled foreign workers who can live and work in the country for up to five years.
The law, which goes into effect in April 2019, will apply to as many as 345,000 less-skilled workers who will be allowed to stay for up to five years, but not bring in family members.
The Japanese government plans to complete draft regulations on working environment to help workers quickly adapt to the local community. Until October 2017, the number of foreign workers in Japan reached 1.28 million.
