Japan praises Vietnamese military’s role in regional cooperation

(VOVworld) – Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh met with top officials of Japan’s Defence Ministry during a 3-day visit to attend the 5th Japan – ASEAN Defence Cooperation Forum in Okinawa city.

During a courtesy visit to Japanese Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera, Vinh expressed his confidence in the growing defence cooperation between the two countries in line with their strategic partnership. Onodera praised the role of the Vietnam People’s Army in regional cooperation and Vietnam’s preparation for more engagement in the UN Peace-keeping Mission. At a meeting with Japanese Deputy Defence Minister Masanori Nishi, both leaders underscored the need to increase mutual support in training medical personnel for the UN’s Peacekeeping Mission, and the marine police, and sharing experience in natural disaster response.
