(VOVWORLD) - China has a new law that allows its coast guard to use weapons against foreign ships that it sees as illegally entering its waters, said Japan's Defense Minister Kishi Nobuo on Monday, adding that Japan has concerns about the law’s legality.

Meanwhile, a diplomat said China’s new law defines spraying water cannons and sinking fishing vessels from other countries.
Chinese President Xi Jinping signed the new law allowing Chinese coast guard vessels to use force against foreign vessels at the 25th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress (National Assembly) on January 22.
The move increases the risk of new tensions in the East China Sea and the South China Sea (called the East Sea in Vietnam).
