Kishida is expected to ask for China’s cooperation in convening trilateral foreign ministerial talks with South Korea in late August in Japan and urge China to respect the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s ruling on East Sea issues.
This will be the first meeting between the two ministers since the PCA ruled against China’s the nine-dash-line claims in the East Sea. Japan has called on China to abide by the ruling and China has announced that it will not accept nor recognize the PCA decision and asked Japan not to intervene in East Sea issues.
