Japanese Prime Minister’s ruling coalition wins lower house election

(VOVWORLD) -Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s ruling coalition won an overwhelming victory in Sunday’s election.

Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party-led (LDP) coalition won a combined 312 seats in the 465-member lower house. The LDP alone won 283 seats, while its coalition partner Komeito won 29 seats. The Constitutional Democratic Party has become the biggest opposition party in the lower house with 54 seats and the Party of Hope has 49 seats. Prime Minister Abe has announced his reappointment of Taro Aso to be Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Finance and Taro Kono to be Minister of Foreign Affairs.
