(VOVWORLD) -Mount Shinmoe on the Japanese island of Kyushu erupted violently on Tuesday, creating smoke and ash thousands of meters into the sky.

80 flights in and out of nearby Kagoshima airport were canceled. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the powerful eruption occurred at around 2:30 pm. local time, spewing plumes of smoke and volcanic ash around 2,300 meters into the air. This was the volcano's biggest eruption since 2011.There was no reports of injuries or damage from the eruption.
