Joint cabinet meeting between Vietnam and Thailand

(VOVworld) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has held talks with his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-o-cha and both chaired their 3rd joint cabinet meeting on Thursday. Prime Minister Dung reiterated Vietnam’s respect to the traditional friendship cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand based on their strategic partnership. Vietnam supports Thailand’s active role for peace, stability, cooperation and development.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha wished for more comprehensive and practical cooperation with Vietnam. They upheld their views as pledged in the 26th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur last April for the establishment of the ASEAN Community by late this year and the central role by the ASEAN in regional strategic issues.
They emphasized the need for related parties to comply with the Declaration on Conducts of Parties in the East Sea, building mutual trust, refraining from threat to use force nor use force, conflict settlement by peaceful means in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea towards early finalization of the Code of Conducts on Parties in the East Sea.
Several cooperative agreements were signed after this meeting, including those on labor, employment, and bilateral provincial cooperation. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung was speaking in a joint press conference: “Thailand has been Vietnam’s biggest trade partner in the ASEAN. Vietnam and Thailand are expected to earn 12 billion dollars from two way trade this year and 20 billion dollars by 2020. Thai investors now rank 10th among 103 countries investing in Vietnam, with 7 billion dollars of investment capital. Vietnam will facilitate Thai investment and hope it will become leading investing country in Vietnam.”
