Peskov added that, although Putin agrees with the need to suspend fighting as soon as possible, it’s important to ensure Russia's interests and address issues he has mentioned multiple times.
The Russian news agency INTERFAX reported Monday that the EU has expressed a desire to continue negotiations for a ceasefire in Ukraine, but will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine.
Anitta Hipper, spokesperson for the High Representative for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said at a briefing that the goal of ceasefire negotiations is to make Ukraine more secure while ensuring a fair, sustainable, and reliable peace. The EU's top priority is to address Ukraine's urgent request for 2 million artillery shells.
