(VOVWORLD) - Japanese police have identified the man suspected to have started a fire at Kyoto Animation studio as Shinji Aoba.

The suspect is 41-year-old man who had a mental illness and had previously spent three and half years in prison for robbing a convenience store in 2012.
The fire started at Kyoto Animation's 1st Studio at around 10am (local time) on Thursday. About 74 staffs were in the building at the time of the fire, 33 of which were killed and 35 others are injured and under hospital treatment.
