The three-day visit is at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Vietnam and Laos have enjoyed a long friendship, special solidarity, and thriving partnership in many fields. Over the years, political ties between the two have expanded. The countries have held regular meetings and delegation exchanges, strengthened their partnership in defence, security, external affairs, and political stability, and built a shared border of peace, stability, and development. Vietnam and Laos have regularly exchanged viewpoints on regional and global issues, and coordinated with and supported each other at multilateral forums, especially within the framework of ASEAN and the UN.
