Vietnam, Laos expand legislative ties
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and Laos should maintain experience sharing, increase delegation exchanges, closely supervise joint agreements, and boost economic cooperation, National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and her Lao counterpart Pany Yathotou said at a meeting in Vientiane on Thursday.
The two leaders agreed on protecting peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the East Sea and settling disputes in the the East Sea via peaceful means, in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. They underlined the need to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and accelerate the building of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea.
The same day, Madame Ngan met with Lao Prime Minister Thoongloun Sisulith. Both leaders said their countries’ relationship has achieved good results in delegation exchanges, bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and key project resolution. They vowed to fully implement current joint statements and signed agreements.
Mr. Sisoulith pledged to continue to support Vietnam and closely cooperate during Vietnam’s chairmanship of ASEAN and the General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly next year.
