(VOVworld) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry discussed the situation in Syria in a telephone call on Wednesday, two days after Washington said it was breaking off bilateral diplomacy with Moscow as a result of their disagreements over Syria.

The US State Department’s statement said the call was about Syrian issues but did not mention whether or not Washington would resume bilateral contacts with Moscow over efforts to reach a ceasefire in Syria.
State Department spokesman Mark Toner told a briefing that the bilateral talks between Russia and the US on the Syrian situation remain suspended, but it certainly doesn't preclude representatives from the two countries’ diplomatic sectors talking.
Toner said that Kerry had also spoken to his counterparts from Britain, Germany, France, Turkey, Qatar, and the EU about Syria over the past 24 hours.
