(VOVworld) – The United States won’t abandon its pursuit of peace in Syria despite suspending direct US-Russian talks on a ceasefire, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Tuesday.

Kerry told reporters in Brussels that the US will continue its efforts to end the fighting and seek a permanent verifiable cessation of hostilities in Syria.

The same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia will aid the Syrian army in fighting terrorism despite the suspended talks. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized the US for not honoring its commitment to separate rebel combatants and routes for humanitarian aid convoys, adding that the US should reconsider its decision.
