Omar Ahmidan, a GNC spokesperson, said that the 19 cabinet ministers were less well-known politicians in Libya’s political circles. The GNC has also discharged Adbullah al-Thani, who was officially assigned to the post of Libyan Prime Minister by the Libyan Parliament on Monday. Libya is mired in political division, with existing two governments and two legislative bodies.
Jonathan Powell, the British Special Envoy to Libya, arrived in Tobruk on Tuesday to discuss with Libyan parliamentarians their on-going political unrest. Powell told a press conference in Tobruk that the UK supported the Libyan Parliament and recognised its legitimacy. He added that there would be no military intervention in Libya and that the conflict should be resolved by diplomatic means.
