(VOVworld) – Thousands of Libyans waved Libyan flags and posters in Tripoli and the eastern city of Benghazi on Friday to demand the dissolution of the interim national parliament, whose mandate had originally been due to expire on Friday with the country deeply split over its future.
Although the demonstration took place in peace and ended without any violence, the move has exposed escalated tensions in Libya. Through mass media, a number of members of the parliament declared resignation in pursuance to people’s aspirations.
On the same day, Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan called on all citizens to be committed to peaceful means stressing on dialogues to deal with the current political deadlock. The United Nations Support Mission in Libya urged political parties in the country to participate in dialogues.
